A chronic autoimmune condition causing joint inflammation, pain, and swelling, most commonly affecting the hands, wrists, and feet. Without treatment, it can lead to lasting joint damage.

An inflammatory arthritis that occurs in some people with psoriasis, affecting joints and causing skin and nail changes. It can involve any joint and varies widely in severity.

An inflammatory condition affecting the spine and sacroiliac joints, causing back pain and stiffness. In severe or longstanding cases, it can lead to reduced spinal movement or fusion.

An inflammatory form of axial spondyloarthritis that causes back pain and stiffness, but does not show definitive sacroiliac joint damage on X-ray. Diagnosis may involve symptoms, examination, blood tests and imaging.

Joint inflammation triggered by an infection elsewhere in the body, typically in the gut or urinary tract. It usually affects the knees, ankles, and feet and can resolve with treatment.

An autoimmune inflammatory condition that can cause muscle weakness and a distinctive skin rash. It can also affect the lungs, and in some adults may be linked with increased cancer risk.

A systemic autoimmune disease that can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, brain, and other organs. It is characterised by flares and remissions and is most common in women of childbearing age.

An autoimmune condition that primarily causes dry eyes and dry mouth due to gland inflammation. It can also affect the joints, lungs, kidneys, and nervous system.

A group of conditions causing hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues. Systemic sclerosis can also affect internal organs including the lungs, heart, and digestive tract.

Gout is caused by urate crystal build-up in joints. CPPD, often called pseudogout, involves calcium pyrophosphate crystals. Both can cause sudden joint pain, swelling and warmth.

Inflammation of the walls of large blood vessels, most commonly those in the temples and head. It can cause headaches and jaw pain, and prompt treatment is essential to protect vision. This condition requires urgent medical assessment.

An inflammatory condition causing pain and stiffness around the shoulders, neck and hips, usually in adults over 50. Symptoms are often worse in the morning and may respond well to corticosteroid treatment.

Inflammation of the blood vessels that can restrict blood flow to organs and tissues. Vasculitis encompasses several specific conditions and can affect blood vessels of any size throughout the body.

The most common form of arthritis, caused by the gradual breakdown of cartilage in joints. It most often affects the hands, knees, hips, and spine, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.

A chronic pain condition involving a more sensitive pain system. It can cause widespread pain, fatigue, sleep problems and brain fog, without causing joint inflammation or tissue damage.

A spectrum of conditions involving excessive joint flexibility that can cause chronic pain, joint instability, fatigue, and other systemic features. Includes hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
